Youth Coaching Staff

Our Plainedge Youth Wrestling coaching staff combines decades of competitive experience with a shared passion for mentoring young athletes. From county and state champions to NCAA Division I competitors, each coach brings a proven record of excellence and leadership on the mat. Together, they focus on teaching fundamentals, building confidence, and instilling the discipline and resilience that wrestling demands. More than coaches, they are role models dedicated to shaping hardworking athletes and strong individuals in our community.

Mike Scarola

Mike Scarola has been part of the wrestling community since 5th grade, competing in the Massapequa wrestling program until his 2002 graduation. A two-time All-County wrestler, he placed 6th in the county tournament as a junior and capped off his senior season with a 24-3 record, tying for the most wins on the team and placing 3rd in the county. Mike is a USA Wrestling Copper Certified coach who is passionate about building confident, hardworking athletes who carry the lessons of wrestling into everyday life. He believes in teaching proper technique, encouraging kids to have fun, and inspiring them to compete not just with others, but with themselves—striving to be a better wrestler than they were the day before. Mike lives in the Plainedge School District with his wife and three children, and he’s proud to share his love for the sport with the next generation.

Matt DeLorenzo

Matt DeLorenzo’s wrestling career is marked by excellence at every level. At MacArthur High School, he became a two-time Nassau County Champion, two-time All-State wrestler, and a Senior Nationals All-American. He also claimed a Freestyle State Championship before being recruited to wrestle at Columbia University. Competing at the NCAA Division I level, Matt earned a spot as a national qualifier, proving his drive, skill, and commitment to the sport. Today, he brings that same passion and competitive spirit to coaching, helping young athletes reach their full potential on and off the mat.

Rocky Cervini

Rocky Cervini’s wrestling journey began at age 9, and by 8th grade, he was competing on the Plainedge varsity team. A three-time All-County wrestler, county champion, and two-time All-State competitor, Rocky built a career on dedication, grit, and passion for the sport. Now a proud Plainedge alumnus, he’s thrilled to give back to the community that shaped him, sharing his knowledge and love for wrestling with the next generation.

Mike Turcios

A proud Plainedge alumnus, Mike Turcios was a standout three-sport athlete, competing in football, wrestling, and lacrosse. After high school, he earned his degree in Physical Education from SUNY Cortland and has spent the past 13 years inspiring students as a NYC physical education teacher. Mike combines his love for athletics with his passion for education, bringing energy, experience, and mentorship to the Plainedge wrestling community.
